Maybe the knowledge that this is only for one night made our staycation especially lovely; if staying in Orchard is just an everyday occurence, the luster would doubtlessly disappear. Mea culpa, I adjusted the lighting on my phone, which made the hotel room look more impressive here . It's more dimly lit in real life, which made horrible photos, but it makes falling into a post-lunch nap much, much easier.
The minibar took a bit of effort to find (Protip! It's cunningly located under the table), but our perseverance was well-rewarded with the wide selection of drinks available, all of it complimentary. Just as pleasant, was the nespresso capsules cozily nestled next to the machine, begging us to try them faster than I can say "Caffeine migraine."
Luckily, the Gold one is caffeine-free! |
Things to Do
Goen Udon
There are plenty of food options in Orchard, but we (ie I) decided on Goen Udon, a stall at Wisma's Food Court. I've heard nothing but good reviews about it, and it's high-time to go. I'm not very good at sharing food, but over at Goen Udon, sharing is a must. One plate of Double Tonkatsu with Curry Rice goes for $11.90, and can easily feed two to three people.
The food's no slouch either, the tonkatsus are left under a heating lamp, but the turnover is so fast, it remained hot and crispy. Bang on, best value for money. Additional plates are available by the side, you're welcome.
So all's perfect here? Well, not quite. As I was collecting my food, I spied a staff member stacking tonkatsu on the display counter, when a couple fell off the tray and landed on the counter. She promptly stacked it back with the rest and walked away. It's a food court after all. Thank god I already ordered and was served.
Goodwood Park Hotel
Just a short distance away, Goodwood Park Deli have a 50% discount on their cakes after 8pm.
Mezza9 at Hyatt
Fancy a martini without fancy prices? Every Mon-Wed, Mezza9 offers $9 martinis.
Swimming at Royal Plaza on Scotts
The pool is open 24 hours, so bring along a swimsuit for a midnight swim (we totally did. Hey, it's not everyday that you get to stay in a swanky hotel...) A stack of towels was available for hotel guests to use, and it was soft and warm (How are they even heated when no one is around?)
