Paddy Hills - Chik's Crib

Paddy Hills

Words by Miss XS

Paddy Hills, one of the new additions to the cafe scene in the West, has created quite a sensation on Instagram and Facebook for its photogenic dishes. It's nested among the private estate with limited parking and isn't the most convenient to get to, so it's a little surprising to find that the cafe is fully occupied on a weekday afternoon.

The instagram-worthy Berry Ricotta Hotcake ($19) is topped with blueberries, blackberries, strawberries pine nuts, and mascarpone and drizzled over with maple syrup. It looks just like the Ricotta Pancakes served over at Top Paddock in Melbourne. These hotcakes are a little dry in comparison, but it's still enjoyable. We particularly liked the crispy rims of the pancakes and the crumbler interior. It tasted like a poundcake mixture cooked in a pan. Eating half of this hotcake is pure decadence, eating a full one is too jelat. Moms got it right: some food are better when shared. (3.5/5)
The Kimchi fried rice ($20 - served with Hanger steak, ito togarashi, negi, nori & sous vide egg) provided a savoury contrast to the pancakes.  The rice was fragrant with a strong wok hei. We enjoyed this rice thoroughly. The beef though, was cooked too dry and didn't add flavor to this rice.

The Verdict

Do give this cafe a try if you are in this area. The chill ambiance makes it a nice place to hangout with your friends or family.
