White Tomato - Chik's Crib

White Tomato

Based on a friend's raving recommendation, White Tomato landed a spot on my "Restaurants-to-go-to" list. Contrary to my initial impression, White Tomato is not a brunch location, but a Korean BBQ restaurant that has made a name for itself in the city.
I'm a big fan of eating Korean BBQ for lunch because that's when restaurants are far less crowded. Plus, the natural light makes the food photography turn out better in spite of my sub-par skills. We had the 3 Pork and Chicken Set ($45.90), and chose Chilli Pork Belly, Soy Pork Scotch, and Pork Belly.

The meat were excellent across the board: flavourful, juicy and cooked just-right. I usually am a poor table-mate to have hot pot or teppanyaki with. I prematurely pull meat off the fire because patience is not my strong suit ("C'mon, the chicken is just a tad undercooked. It's fine guys.). This usually doesn't end well for us. But this time, the meat were perfect because the waitress stood over the grill herself and cooked our meat for us. Perks of having Korean BBQ when the restaurant's not crowded? Maybe. A plus for service.
Deep Fried Dumpling ($11.50) were pretty crunchy on the outside and gave us something to eat while waiting for the meat. They were pretty good
The Seafood Pancake (Haemul Gyeon - $14.50) was a winner. It was pretty pricey for the quantity, but I like how crispy the edges are.
Overall, a decent place for a meal, and an option to keep in mind if you're in the area.
