Sumiya is a casual Japanese restaurant located at the roof terrace of Orchard Central. Having heard great reviews on Sumiya online, we went to check it out. Sumiya is great for its affordable lunch sets. No surprise that this place is always swamped by the office lunch crowd.
Bara Kaisen Don set ($20) is available for lunches only (even weekends!), and includes miso soup, chawamushi, pickles, free flow green tea and mochi. What a bargain. With thick cubes of fresh sashimi, their housemade special sauce and rice* makes it a perfect hearty lunch. Chawamushi was silky and smooth, and is of excellent quality.
The highlight of the meal was the mochi dessert. The soft chewy skin encases molten sesame filling. Every bite was delightful.
*Note that you have to specify preference of Japanes rice (at no additional cost) , otherwise plain white rice will be served.
